Visa Information
A visa may be acquired online or in person at a Portuguese embassy or consulate.

Letters of invitation
An invitation letter is required to apply for a visa. Upon request, invitation letters will be provided to the authors and presenters of accepted papers, posters, keynotes, tutorials, and panels, and to Tropical Summit 2024 attendees who have completed their registration and payment process.
After the registration and payment are completed, an invitation letter may be requested. With this letter, participants will be able to obtain a visa for the period of the Tropical Summit 2024.
Lisbon airport
Lisbon airport is centrally located and only about 5 km away from the Centre of Lisbon. There is a direct connection with the red line from the underground (metro) station at the airport.

Climate
The average maximum and minimum temperature in the Lisbon area are 22ºC / 72F (high) and 14ºC / 57F (low). Please take into consideration that Lisbon is located by the river and the ocean, and therefore can be somewhat windy in the late afternoon or evening.
Currency
The official currency of Portugal is the euro (€).
Electric Current
The Portuguese standard is the European 2-pin socket with 220 volts AC at 50 cycles.
Health Requirements
With the exception of vaccination certificates for persons coming from areas where yellow fever is endemic, at present there are no special health requirements.
Hotel Check in/out Policy
Normal check in time at hotels is 15:00. The established check out time is 12:00. Should you need guaranteed occupancy before 13:00 on the day of your arrival, the previous night should be reserved.

Local Time
Mainland Portugal is 1 hour behind Central European Time (CET - 1).
Language
The official language in Portugal is Portuguese. English, Spanish, and French are also widely spoken.
Medical Care
Clinics and hospitals provide 24-hour emergency service.
The national emergency phone number is 112. Hotels have a doctor on call through the reception.
Smoking
The Portuguese law, in accordance with regulations in force in the majority of European Union member states, does not allow smoking in public transportation or in any closed public areas. However, some restaurants, bars, and clubs may have designated smoking areas.
TAX Free
Sales tax (VAT) is included in prices quoted. For persons who are not residents of the European Union, tax-free shopping schemes are available in many shops, giving substantial savings to visitors.
